After watching Butler upset Syracuse, I changed the channel to ESPN2 and caught the inaugural game of the Philadelphia Union. Yes, I am a soccer fan. In fact, I went in on season tickets to the Union games this year.
The Union actually looked good in the second half. They actually played better down a man; they didn't give up any goals during that long stretch. I still don't understand how a player can get two yellow cards - and get tossed out of the game - within 41 minutes! I don't know what he was doing or thinking. They were definitely fouls. Not sure the second one was worth a yellow, but you have to more careful. Can't imagine that player is psyched about their first ever MLS game
I'm looking forward to the new stadium in 'wonderful' Chester. Even more excited to take Kids #1 and #2 to the games.
What I don't get is why soccer (really Football) isn't more popular in the States. It's the most played youth sport in America for the last 15-20 years.
In the end, who cares. I'm looking forward to the World Cup and my extended weekend trip with the boys to watch the games. It won't be quite like '06 and being in Germany, but it should be great.
